Ministry of Defence: Latvia begins transferring a batch of CVR(T) combat armoured vehicles to Ukraine

Latvia has begun transferring a batch of CVR(T) combat armoured vehicles to Ukraine as part of its military assistance. Deliveries have already started.

In total, the equipment is intended to fully equip a battalion-level unit.

Minister of Defence of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, during a meeting with Latvian Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds, discussed the development of mutually beneficial defence cooperation.

Projects to support drone units

During negotiations with Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration Sergiy Boyev, the Latvian delegation was briefed on the current situation on the battlefield. The Ukrainian side informed them about the increasing losses of russian forces and presented key projects for the implementation of the War Plan – in particular, the Drone Line and ensuring the basic level of unmanned systems supply to brigades.

One of Ukraine’s goals is to inflict such losses on the enemy that its further advance becomes impossible.

Latvia as an ally in the defence industry and military technologies

The parties also discussed joint projects in the defence-industrial complex and the development of military technologies. In particular, they analysed the potential of the Drone Coalition, in which Latvia is one of the leaders. This platform is seen as a key venue for coordinating efforts and exchanging experience.

Separate attention was paid to the prospects of using ground robotic systems on the frontline, as well as plans to develop the production of key types of unmanned systems, including: FPV, deep strike, and middle strike.

The Ukrainian side thanked Latvia for its comprehensive support, in particular for the decision to allocate 0.25% of GDP annually to aid Ukraine, as well as for its participation in the critically important PURL programme.
