“This year we have gone through some changes in the structure of both the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff. Finally, this year we switched to the J-structure and will conduct evaluations in the fall. That is why in the last decade of September we are conducting strategic command and staff exercises ” Joint Endeavours 2020“, noted Minister of Defence of Ukraine Andrii Taran.
“On the one hand, it is a response to Russia’s Caucasus 2020 exercise, and on the other, it will be an attempt by the General Staff, the leadership of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence to assess the quality of the transition to the new J-structure and check the results,” he said.
He clarified that this is done not only to rename individual structures but also to see how the new structure will improve the quality of combat planning, operational planning, the quality of cooperation and the ability to cooperate with NATO countries on the battlefield.
“Another goal we set ourselves during the planning of the “Joint Endeavours” exercise is to check the communication system, obtain information on the battlefield and exchange it both between the structural units of our Armed Forces and between the C2 posts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and NATO member states. To see what our communication systems, data exchange systems are capable of and to draw conclusions about what we still need to do, what re-equipment is needed to achieve the same interoperability“, added Andrii Taran.
