In 2023, Sergii Marchenko represents Ukraine as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the IMF. This happened for the first time in 30 years of Ukraine's membership in the World Bank and the IMF.

Among the responsibilities of the Minister of Finance as Chairman of the Board of Governors is the chairing of the IMF and WB plenary meeting which took place on 13 October during the Annual Meetings in Morocco. The plenary meeting was attended by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, World Bank President Ajay Banga, heads and management of international financial institutions, finance ministers, and central bank governors. In total, the event brought together more than 3,000 participants.

Sergii Marchenko's speech was dedicated to the global challenges facing Ukraine and other countries — wars, natural disasters, inflation, slowing growth and geopolitical fragmentation.
