Today, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met online with the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.

The parties discussed issues of ensuring the nuclear security of Ukraine and Europe in the context of the visit of the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to Ukraine.

According to German Galushchenko, direct talks between Ukraine and the IAEA are extremely important for providing the nuclear security of Ukraine and Europe. He noted that the IAEA Director General recognizes that Ukraine has significant potential in nuclear energy.

At the same time, the presence of russian troops at nuclear facilities not only threatens nuclear security, but may also cross the prospects for the development of the Ukrainian nuclear industry.

"Coordination of the position of Ukraine and Europe is critical for ensuring nuclear and energy security," German Galushchenko stressed.

Ukraine can also help European countries to get ‘off the hook’ of russian fossil fuels, in particular by providing its underground gas storage facilities and electricity supplies.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the first results of operation of the Ukrainian power system synchronized with the European system.

Commissioner Kadri Simson stressed that Ukraine, after synchronization, is already becoming an important factor in the reliable operation of the European energy system. She noted that the launched auctions for the export of electricity from Ukraine to Poland had a very positive effect on the latter's energy supply.

German Galushchenko, in turn, thanked the European Commissioner for her effective assistance and support in accelerating the synchronization of the Ukrainian UES with ENTSO-E and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
