Ministry for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport in synergy with UNDP discuss priorities for further cooperation in Ukraine’s recovery

First Deputy Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Serhii Derkach held a meeting with Auke Lootsma, UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine.

During the meeting, the parties discussed further expanding cooperation in the restoration of critical infrastructure, strengthening energy resilience and implementing recovery projects.

Serhii Derkach thanked UNDP for its systematic support for Ukraine, which has mobilised more than USD 1 billion since 2022 for recovery, community development, energy resilience and institutional support for Ukraine.

With UNDP support, more than 500 social and municipal infrastructure facilities are currently being modernised in over 150 communities across Ukraine, 450 MW of additional generation capacity has been commissioned, and support is being provided for debris removal and the early recovery of affected areas.

«For us, UNDP remains one of our key strategic partners, combining the functions of a donor and an implementer of international technical assistance. We highly value UNDP’s ability to ensure the full project implementation cycle —  from the preparation of feasibility solutions and design to construction, monitoring and evaluation of results. Our common task is to work systematically on programmes that will strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, communities and transport system,» said First Deputy Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Serhii Derkach.

Serhii Derkach also emphasised that the Ministry’s immediate priorities include preparations for the heating season, supporting regions and communities in implementing Resilience Plans, including by providing equipment and specialists, as well as rebuilding and developing infrastructure in the regions most affected by the war.

The participants therefore paid particular attention to opportunities for modernising district heating, water supply and wastewater systems, developing distributed generation, and implementing modern energy-resilient solutions for critical infrastructure facilities.

In addition, the parties discussed the implementation and potential scaling up of key UNDP programmes, including EU4Recovery, Area-Based Recovery, Green Energy Recovery, U.R.B.A.N. CORE and others, aimed at mobilising international financing and preparing investment projects for Ukraine’s post-war recovery.
