  • Ukraine and Poland resume active cooperation at customs border to combat smuggling

    On July 23, Deputy Minister of Finance Yuriy Draganchuk met the Deputy Minister of Finance, Secretary of State, Head of the National Revenue Administration of the Republic of Poland Magdalena Rzeczkowska at the «Korczowa-Krakovets» checkpoint.

    The meeting was devoted to further strengthening of customs cooperation between the two countries at the customs border in order to combat smuggling.

    As part of a business trip, Yuriy Draganchuk visited the «Krakovets-Korczowa» checkpoint in the Lviv region, where he got acquainted with the infrastructure, the procedure for passing vehicles, the work and working conditions of customs officers.

    Particular attention was paid to the construction of the checkpoint - the construction of a platform for cars and buses in order to separate passenger and freight traffic. Its construction plan was presented at the construction site by the responsible persons and representatives of the organization that will support the construction, in particular, its technical supervision.

    The Deputy Minister of Finance also inspected the scanning complex system of the stationary type for inspection of trucks and containers, got acquainted with the peculiarities of its work and talked to customs officers.

    Also, representatives of the Ukrainian and Polish sides visited the «Korczowa» checkpoint in the Republic of Poland and discussed the prospects of resolving issues related to ensuring the sound work of checkpoints within the Emergency Reporting System on the Ukrainian-Polish border, as well as improving the existing information exchange system, opportunities to introduce the latest systems to prevent customs violations and ensuring security on the Ukrainian-Polish border.

    Yuriy Draganchuk paid special attention to the importance of consolidating the efforts of both countries in counteracting customs offenses at the border, including smuggling, using the world's best practices in information exchange.

    At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed his intention to continue the course of systemic pro-European reforms in Ukraine in the customs sphere and emphasized that the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine is interested in implementing the practice of joint control to other checkpoints between Ukraine and Poland.
