Due to the complexity and duration of tender procedures, the purchase of Baby Boxes did not take place as of June, so there occurred a need to develop another mechanism that would provide timely state assistance to families with newborns who cannot be provided with the in-kind assistance.
The Ministry of Finance supported the proposal of the Ministry of Social Policy and joined the process of development of a procedure for monetizing one-time in-kind assistance the Baby Box.
On July 29, 2020, the Government adopted a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine "On payment of monetary compensation for the cost of one-time in-kind assistance the Baby Box for the children born in 2020 who did not receive a Baby Box".
From now on, every family that has a newborn child and has not received in-kind assistance will be able to exercise their right to monetary compensation from the state in the amount of UAH 5,000. These funds will be transferred to special accounts, which will be opened in the form of a separate bank card in the nearest for those applying for the assistance branches of JSC CB "PrivatBank".
The Ministry of Finance, for its part, ensured that the procedure for obtaining funds be simplified and convenient for families.
The state aid is directed exclusively to the purchase of baby goods (care products, clothing, footwear, food, baby utensils, toys) and goods for new mothers (care products). The network of trade establishments where such purchases can be made will be determined by the Ministry of Policy at the request of these establishments to join the pilot project.
The Ministry of Finance will monitor the timeliness and transparency of the payment mechanism.
