  • Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources is working on launching the Emissions Trading System and renewing the obligation of enterprises to report in the MRV system

Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, met with Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, to discuss the launch of the ETS and the renewal of the reporting obligation for enterprises in the MRV system.

“Today, the team of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, together with other agencies, is actively working to create an emissions trading system unique to Ukraine. We have already prepared the relevant Strategy, which is undergoing public discussion,” said Ruslan Strilets.

According to the Minister, consultations with the business community are ongoing so that they receive all the tools for decarbonisation. The development of the ETS is one of the main components of a consistent state policy, which is the “red line” of the Climate Strategy 2035 and the climate framework draft law. The work on “Ukraine’s green deal” is being carried out jointly with colleagues from the European Commission and a number of ministries, including the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Energy, with the involvement of experts from international organisations.

The participants also touched upon the National Energy and Climate Plan recently approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. It is a strategic document that combines national energy and climate commitments and demonstrates synergies across the government.
