  • Azerbaijan stands ready to support Ukraine's worthy participation in the COP29 Climate Change Conference in Baku: Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources

Azerbaijan stands ready to support Ukraine's worthy participation in the COP29 Climate Change Conference in Baku. Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets agreed on this at a meeting with Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymur Mardaliyev. The parties discussed the implementation of point 8 of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula and a wide range of opportunities for cooperation in the field of environmental protection.

"This year, the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, will host the largest climate event of the year - the UN Climate Change Conference COP 29. Therefore, it was extremely important to hear from Mr Mardaliyev words of support and assurances of full readiness for cooperation," Ruslan Strilets said.

In the context of the implementation of point 8 of the President's Peace Formula and Azerbaijan's involvement in its implementation, Ruslan Strilets and Seymur Mardaliyev also touched upon the topic of environmentally friendly demining in Ukraine. Azerbaijan is already helping Ukraine with this. In 2023, with the support of the Government of Azerbaijan, an Azerbaijani-made Revival demining vehicle arrived in Ukraine.

Ruslan Strilets demonstrated to Mr Mardaliyev how the unique Ukrainian solution, the EcoThreat app, works.

"During the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev, became interested in EcoThreat. This is our point of contact. The digitalisation of environmental data is a priority not only for Ukraine but also for our partners," said Ruslan Strilets.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources extended an invitation to his counterpart Mukhtar Babayev to visit Ukraine and see first-hand the environmental impact of the hostilities.

"I am confident that the continuation of our dialogue in Kyiv will be a significant impetus for further cooperation and preparation of joint initiatives for the COP29. I am grateful to Azerbaijan for its support of Ukraine. I thank Ambassador Seymour Mardaliyev for a productive dialogue. We are ready to cooperate. There is a lot of work ahead on our joint tracks," Ruslan Strilets emphasised.
