  • Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food: International donors supply 13.5 tonnes of vegetable seeds to de-occupied territories of Ukraine
Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, posted 06 February 2023 11:56

13.5 tonnes of vegetable seeds from international donors will be delivered to farmers and residents of de-occupied territories of Ukraine. Micro-farms and households in four communities of Poltava, Kyiv, and Dnipro regions have already received the first supplies.

These 13.5 tonnes of seeds will allow to plant 1,126 hectares of agricultural land. The seeds provided include beans, peas, beets, carrots, eggplant, onions, and radishes.

Information on seed needs is collected by the All-Ukrainian Association of Communities and the Ukrainian Agrarian Council. After that, the seeds are distributed as per requests. Logistical support for the project, such as free delivery of seeds from international donors to communities, is provided by the USAID AGRO Program.

Besides, an international company, BAYER, will donate carrot seeds for sowing under the USAID Agriculture Resilience Initiative (AGRI-Ukraine). The first batch will meet the needs of 25,000 households. The distribution and delivery will be organized by the All-Ukrainian Association of Communities.

According to the USAID AGRO Program, assistance to households and small farms is important because they provide about a third of the country’s consumer market demand for vegetables and make a significant contribution to meeting the food needs of communities.

    For reference

In 2022, the USAID AGRO Program donated 1,604 kg of seeds and 35 tonnes of seed potatoes to internally displaced persons and micro-producers.
