The Memorandum on enhancing communities’ energy resilience was signed during the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.
The main goal of the cooperation is to bring Ukraine closer to energy independence and to meet EU standards in the field of energy efficiency, in particular, to implement measures to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, develop alternative power sources, support energy service contracts and attract investment in the energy sector.
The Memorandum was signed between the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Energy, and the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving during the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities chaired by the President of Ukraine. The document was also signed by the heads of the all-Ukrainian associations of local governments: Association of Ukrainian Cities, Ukrainian Association of Rayon and Oblast Councils, All-Ukrainian Association of Communities, and Association of Amalgamated Territorial Communities.
According to Vasyl Shkurakov, Acting Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, cooperation between state agencies, local governments and specialised associations will result in a significant increase in the number of thermally upgraded buildings and constructed solar power plants.
