If the weekend quarantine restrictions are met, the country will be able to stop the rapid spread of COVID-19. This was stated by the Minister of Health Maxym Stepanov during an online briefing.

"COVID-19 is a rather serious disease. I ask everyone to follow the quarantine rules that have been introduced in our country. After all, even if the chain of transmission of the disease is broken for two days, the situation with the level of morbidity will be preserved at the current figures, and the exponential growth in the number of new cases will be stopped. If on Saturday and Sunday we really do not operate the institutions specified in the government resolution, we will get the expected result," said the Minister of Health.

Maxym Stepanov reminded that a similar mechanism to combat coronavirus disease had been introduced in Israel this summer. Then, as a result of the introduction of weekend quarantine for three weeks, the country had managed to reduce the incidence rate by 20%.

At that, Minister Maxym Stepanov noted that a full lockdown, introduced in many countries around the world, in terms of anti-epidemic measures - the most effective method of counteraction, because it completely breaks the chain of transmission. However, according to the calculations of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture, its introduction in Ukraine will lead to the collapse of the economy.

It should be recalled that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced a weekend quarantine from November 14 to 30, 2020, and also supported the transition to a nationwide quarantine with restrictions that correspond to the "orange" level of epidemiological danger.
