Luxembourg to provide EUR 10 million to restore and strengthen energy security: Denys Shmyhal

Luxembourg will provide EUR 10 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel signed a memorandum of understanding on financial assistance in the energy sector.

“We will be able to use these funds to support projects in the energy sector, in particular to restore and strengthen energy security,” the Head of the Ukrainian Government stressed.

In addition to the stability of the energy system, the Prime Minister discussed with Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Minister of Defence, Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Yuriko Backes bilateral relations and the development of innovations in the defence industry of the countries and the needs of the Ukrainian military. This year, Luxembourg plans to allocate EUR 80 million for military assistance to Ukraine. Denys Shmyhal thanked for the defence support and participation of Luxembourg in military coalitions.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need to strengthen sanctions against russia, as it is an effective tool to influence the aggressor.

“russia has to pay for the destruction, so we call on our partners to develop a legal mechanism that will allow us to confiscate frozen russian assets and use them to rebuild Ukraine,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The meeting also focused on the restoration of Ukraine. “We highly appreciate the implementation of reconstruction projects by LuxDev, in particular, its active participation in the reconstruction of Kryvyi Rih. We look forward to LuxDev’s further support, including in the field of humanitarian demining,” the Prime Minister stressed, thanking Luxembourg for all the assistance provided in various areas.
