While visiting Buenos Aires that hosts the 3rd Youth Olympic Games, Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Ihor Zhdanov attended the Olympic Village and congratulated the team on the Day of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God and the Defender of Ukraine Day.
Along with the President of the NOC Serhii Bubka, NOC Vice President Mykola Tomenko, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Argentina Yurii Dyudin, Ihor Zhdanov thanked young athletes for they represent our country at the Youth Olympics in a worthy and succesful way. All contestants, regardless of the prize-winning places, are the winners. After all, they have got licenses in a difficult struggle and compete among the strongest athletes of their generation from around the world.
"Many adult Ukrainian athletes are servicemen of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, and the SBU. I'm sure someone from the current Ukrainian Youth Olympic team will decide on continuing his sports career as part of the security forces. An example for each of them will be dozens and hundreds of athletes who fought in the east of Ukraine, protecting the territorial integrity of our country from the Russian aggressor. Due to our defenders, including representatives of the sports family, today Ukrainian athletes have the opportunity to train under the peaceful sky, fight on the sports front for the honor of Ukraine and the blue-and-yellow flag", stressed the Minister during the meeting.
Young athletes thanked for the congratulations and warm support of the entire Ukraine, they are well aware that millions are cheering them, as they manage to read media reports and social media sources between the training sessions and competitions.
Moreover, the Minister got acquainted with the living conditions of young Ukrainians in the Olympic Village, and thanked the Headquarters of the national team, the NOC President Serhii Bubka, the chief of the mission Anna Sorokina, to everyone who made every effort to create the optimal conditions for the Ukrainian team in Buenos Aires.
By the morning of October 15 the national team of Ukraine has claimed 10 medals: two gold, four silver and four bronze medals.
