The meeting was aimed to discuss the strengthening of bilateral trade and economic relations and increasing export supplies of agricultural products to the market of Tajikistan.

"Ukraine sees Tajikistan as an important partner in the Central Asian region. We are interested in increasing bilateral trade between our countries, implementing joint projects in various fields, updating the bilateral intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology and certification and strengthening the work of the intergovernmental commission, "said Ihor Petrashko.

At present, Ukraine possesses significant potential for increasing bilateral trade in agricultural products with Tajikistan, in particular, Ukrainian products of processing, confectionery and oil and fat industries have high competitive advantages. Ukraine stands ready for an in-depth dialogue to expand the range of supplies of Ukrainian food products to the Tajik market.

The resumption of the work of the intergovernmental commission was also a key moment in the development of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Tajikistan. The main goal for the medium term should be to implelemnt the agreements based on the results of the 5th meeting in 2020, as well as to hold the 6th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Apart from that, Ihor Petrashko dwelled on the importance of maintaining business contacts, namely the joint organization of business forums, round tables, seminars, sales offices, exhibitions, fairs and more. It is also important to deepen cooperation between the regions of the two countries, which can be especially promising in the context of the dynamic development of technology parks in Ukraine and free economic zones in Tajikistan.

The trade turnover between Ukraine and Tajikistan in 2020 amounted to $ 24.9 million. Exports of Ukrainian goods to Tajikistan during this period amounted to $ 24.1 million.
