On June 3, the Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Petrashko met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Anka Feldhuzen. The participants of the meeting discussed the state and prospects of trade, economic and investment cooperation between the countries, implementation of joint projects and exchange of experience in the measures to ensure economic recovery after COVID-19 pandemic.
"Germany is our reliable partner, which on the results of 2019 took first place among Ukraine's trade partners from Europe. In particular, last year the volume of trade between Ukraine and Germany increased by 3.1% and amounted to $ 9.3 billion. We are grateful to our German colleagues for participating in the technical assistance projects and expert support in the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU," said Minister Ihor Petrashko.
According to the Minister, in the current conditions, food security is among the priorities for all the countries. Ukraine, as a guarantor of global food security, makes every effort to fulfill its international obligations and supplies agricultural products to foreign markets.
The parties tackled the intensification of bilateral cooperation in the field of economic development, agriculture, food safety, energy efficiency, improving the business climate, infrastructure, etc. The Ukrainian side informed about the steps on anti-crisis initiatives aimed at supporting small and medium-sized businesses, access to cheap and long-term financing for Ukrainian business, localization of government orders, i.e. providing benefits to those who produce in Ukraine, support of export potential.
Moreover, the interlocutors stressed the importance of holding the 11th meeting of the Ukrainian-German High-Level Group and the 4th Ukrainian-German Economic Forum immediately after the resumption of international activities and the lifting of restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
