The safety of citizens across the country is one of the key issues on the agenda of the National Security and Defense Council meeting held on June 23. This was emphasized by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during the Government session.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting the NSDC decision on the results of the shelter inspections. 77% of shelters in Ukraine are suitable for use, but many of those do not meet any standards.
"In some places, the situation is unacceptable. We are talking about a number of districts in Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Zhytomyr, Kyiv regions and the city of Kyiv. Pursuant to the commissions of the National Security and Defense Council, the Government has made personnel and disciplinary decisions today," stressed Denys Shmyhal.
Apart from that, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decree appointing Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshyn responsible for coordination and control of all issues and processes related to bomb shelters.
"The President has clearly set a task - there should be more shelters, they should be properly equipped and prepared. We are giving Minister Kamyshyn every opportunity to develop and quickly submit the necessary decisions to fulfill these tasks," the Prime Minister said.
The Government has also set up a commission to inspect the condition of bridges. This issue was raised at the National Security and Defense Council meeting. According to Denys Shmyhal, there are problems and challenges that are not being addressed in some regions. The commission will be headed by Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development. After the report on the condition of the bridges, appropriate decisions will be made.
