Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 08 December 2022 17:59

Minister of Energy German Galushchenko took part in the meeting of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Trade Union of Coal Industry Workers of Ukraine, chaired by the head of the trade union Andriy Zimin.

German Galushchenko emphasized that the current russian-Ukrainian war and the situation in the energy markets of Europe, as a result, has increased the importance of the coal industry worldwide.

"Nobody says that humanity refuses from the green transition. But now, especially this year and next year, Europe and the whole world need to have coal to produce electricity. This is just a fact. And this fact changes the attitude to the coal industry as such," he said.

"We have no other way but to support and develop the coal industry and increase production," the Minister stressed.

German Galushchenko noted that domestic coal should be used primarily for the needs of thermal generation to provide consumers with light and heat during the heating season.

The participants of the meeting with representatives of trade unions also discussed financing of the industry, tax administration and other issues of coal mining enterprises.
