During a working visit to Seattle, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Diplomacy Laura Lochman.
The Minister of Energy thanked the American side for the assistance provided by the U.S. Department of State under the coordination of Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt to ensure the proper functioning of the Ukrainian energy sector in times of war.
German Galushchenko reported on the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which suffered massive russian attacks during the last heating season, and highlighted the measures being taken to prepare the energy sector for the next winter.
“We expect the attacks to continue next winter, which will obviously be carried out with all types of weapons, just like last season.
We are paying special attention to the regions where the consequences of hostile attacks could be most severe. In order to ensure stable power supply to consumers in these regions, we are taking measures to decentralise generation and increase capacity,” the Minister said.
German Galushchenko stressed the importance of distributed generation in this process and thanked the U.S. side for the gas turbine provided to meet the needs of critical infrastructure. The Minister noted that the need for further supplies of gas turbines remained relevant.
The parties also discussed possible U.S. support for a programme to increase domestic production of power transformers in Ukraine.
