Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman insists a new coal mining policy should be shaped, primarily in the segment of state-owned mines, where the amount of subsidies reaches UAH 3 billion. The Head of Government stressed during A Question Time for the Government at the Verkhovna Rada.

"These are chronic problems for the coal industry. The situation is rather poor. It is acceptable neither for miners, nor for me as Prime Minister. It is vital to engage in systematic restructuring of mines, upgrading and increasing production. There is the difference between the cost and the sale price. And this difference isn’t for the benefit of the state-owned mines. We grant subvention per every ton (coal). In total, it makes up UAH 3 billion that should be found in the budget", said Volodymyr Groysman. "I have tasked to find opportunities and finance needs avoiding creation additional debts. We need a new policy in the coal industry. I emphasize this issue will be on the agenda on a daily basis."
