I want to draw attention to the problems of persons with disabilities in Ukraine. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman made this statement during the delivery of specially-equipped vehicles for persons with disabilities.

"Our environment should be barrier-free, friendly and accessible to everyone. A person should feel comfortable in any premises as well as have access to infrastructure facilities without restrictions," the Head of Government emphasized.

The initiative on the creation of special transportation services was initiated by Government Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Raisa Panasyuk. The idea was to encourage territorial communities to create transportation services for persons with disabilities, primarily with lesions of the locomotor apparatus.

Last year, a sum worth UAH 28.5 million was allocated for the purchase of specially-equipped vehicles. 25 such cars were purchased, 10 of which have already been transferred to the regions. Today, 15 more such vehicles were transferred.

The Prime Minister stressed that the program will be continued in 2019 and added that procurement procedure for 24 vehicles was already triggered.

    Background

A specially-equipped vehicle for the transportation of persons with disabilities is designed to transport two people in wheelchair and three attendants. This vehicle is made in Ukraine on the basis of the PEUGEOT Boxer cargo and passenger van.

The car is equipped with a wheelchair lift operated by a remote control. For convenience, the lift has a built-in transition bridge. The basic technical parameters are in line with the European directives on safety.
