The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko held an online meeting with Canada's Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson.

The officials discussed energy security and countering russian aggression in the energy sector, including another stage of gas blackmail of Europe by the russian federation. German Galushchenko emphasized that the reduction of transit of russian gas to Europe has exclusively political reasons. This includes the statements of Gazprom about the alleged reduction of gas transit to the EU due to delays with the return to the russian side of the Siemens turbine, which was used in Nord Stream-1 and is currently undergoing maintenance in Canada.

German Galushchenko emphasized that the specified turbine is only one of seven that ensure the operation of the corresponding compressor station of the gas pipeline, therefore there are technical possibilities to carry out the load even without it.

Meanwhile, its return without an urgent need "may become a negative precedent" in the context of sanctions policy and maintaining pressure on the aggressor state.

German Galushchenko emphasized that the Ukrainian gas transit system has sufficient capacity to ensure stable gas supply to European countries. At the same time, gazprom refuses to use this opportunity and currently uses only 38% of the reserved capacity of the Ukrainian GTS.
