Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko held a meeting with the US delegation led by the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried. On the American side, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central and Eastern in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Europe, Robin Dunnigan and the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, Bridget Brink also took part in the meeting.
At the meeting, the parties paid special attention to the issue of strengthening Ukraine's energy security against the background of the ongoing russia's full-scale military aggression.
German Galushchenko emphasized that since October 10, russian armed aggression had reached a new level - the russian federation was purposefully destroying the energy infrastructure of Ukraine on the eve of winter, striking exclusively at energy facilities and networks.
"These attacks are planned not just by the military, but, first of all, by the energy industry, which advises on how to cause the greatest damage to various chains of the energy supply sector," said the Minister.
German Galushchenko emphasized that Ukrainian energy companies were trying to restore energy supply as soon as possible. At the same time, the enemy often commits repeated attacks, and in this way already restored objects and networks again suffer damage and destruction. "We restore, repair, and they shell again. There are objects on which up to a dozen attacks were carried out," he said.
The Minister emphasized that amid such conditions, key energy facilities of Ukraine should be protected to the maximum, in particular, by air defense systems.
German Galushchenko also accentuated that restoration works were being carried out, including using equipment and materials provided by Ukraine's international partners. He noted that a high-level International Energy Advisory Council had been established under the Ministry of Energy to coordinate efforts and effective cooperation in practical, technological and logistical support of Ukraine in the process of restoration and reconstruction of the energy sector.
The parties agreed to coordinate efforts to determine the resources and equipment necessary for the repair and restoration of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Karen Donfried emphasized that the USA admires the courage of the Ukrainian people in the fight against the aggressor, and in particular the energy workers who hold the energy front.
"The US continues to support Ukraine and we will do it as long as it takes," the US Assistant Secretary of State assured.
