Energy security and focus on critical materials – Oleksii Sobolev meets with President of U.S. EXIM Bank John Jovanovic
Attracting American technologies and investments to the Ukrainian economy was the main focus during the meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, Oleksii Sobolev, and John Jovanovic, President and Chairman of the U.S. EXIM Bank.
The meeting took place as part of the Ukrainian delegation’s visit, led by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, to the annual financial week of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington, USA.
In particular, discussions centred on energy security. Due to russian attacks, Ukraine has lost part of its gas production, so the parties explored possible mechanisms for financing the purchase of American LNG and compressor equipment. They also addressed accelerating Westinghouse projects for Energoatom.
The Ukrainian side is also ready to develop cooperation with American business in energy, infrastructure, logistics, extraction of critical materials (lithium, graphite, titanium), and building a network of data centres in Ukraine.
In addition, the parties discussed projects in the areas of gas imports, nuclear energy, and joint uranium extraction.
The Government of Ukraine hopes for the development of business partnerships with the EXIM Bank in the aforementioned projects and further cooperation between Ukraine and the USA.
