Ukraine's energy independence is an integral part of the European energy security and a key to fruitful cooperation with other strategic partners. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman made this statement during a meeting with Kent D. Logsdon, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources. The high official headed a delegation of American experts who visited the gas regions of Ukraine, in particular Poltava region, for the purpose of implementing and developing international projects in these  regions.

Kent D. Logsdon stressed that he is very pleased with the visit and looks forward to further continue a high-level dialogue.

"Energy sector is a big part of our relationship. Washington is very serious about the energy component of cooperation with Ukraine. The U.S. Government is interested in implementing joint projects", the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary said.

"We praise your attention to energy issues. The joint decision of such issues affects not only the energy independence of Ukraine, but also the energy security of Europe", the Prime Minister stated.

The sides commended that among the topics in which Ukraine and the United States have a common position is strengthening the role of Ukraine as a gas transiter to European consumers and the maximum loading of Ukrainian gas transmission system, counteracting the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is a purely political project and another  hybrid weapon against the European Union, as well as strengthening Ukraine's own capabilities as a gas country.

"That is why it is of unparalleled importance for us to continue further mutually beneficial cooperation," Volodymyr Groysman underscored.
