Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting on the implementation of projects to ensure water supply to settlements affected by the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam blow-up.
Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, briefed the meeting on the measures taken and funds allocated to provide water to the population of the southern regions.
In particular, the laying of water mains in Dnipropetrovsk region has begun. These are three links with a total length of over 144 km. The work is due to be completed by autumn. These projects will supply water to Kryvyi Rih, Marhanets and Nikopol.
In addition, a water main was laid in the town of Pokrov and centralised water supply was restored. Partial centralised supply was restored in Nikopol and seven communities in Kryvyi Rih district.
“russia’s blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam has threatened the water supply for hundreds of thousands of people and several Ukrainian regions. We are working together with the communities and local authorities to address these issues. The timeframe for contractors has been set as short as possible. In total, the Government has allocated UAH 1.5 billion for these works. Timely state assistance allows for fast and high-quality construction,” the Prime Minister said.

At the same time, according to Denys Shmyhal, the funds were not used by the spending units.
The Head of Government heard the heads of the regional military administrations on the current state of water supply to the population and the problems with the use of the allocated funds. He also stressed the Government’s readiness to provide comprehensive assistance to the regions in order to speed up the implementation of water supply projects.
