Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Luigi Di Maio who is visiting Ukraine on an official visit.
The counterparts steps to intensify relations between Ukraine and Italy in the political, trade, investment, humanitarian and cultural spheres.
“Our states are connected with long-term ties of friendship and mutual understanding. Italy remains an important political and trade partner of Ukraine. We do not want to stop at the achieved results and strive for more. It is time to fill Ukrainian-Italian cooperation with new practical content for the benefit of our peoples,” Dmytro Kuleba stressed.
The Ukrainian Minister thanked his Italian counterpart for Italy's support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity amid the Russian aggression both bilaterally and within the European Union, including its sanctions policy.
Dmytro Kuleba and Luigi Di Maio paid special attention to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of our country.
"I want to emphasize clearly that Italy recognizes Ukraine's European aspirations and will fully support it on this path," the Italian Foreign Minister said. The Foreign Minister of Italy assured of his country's readiness to continue to promote internal transformations in Ukraine, in particular the development of its anti-corruption infrastructure. Luigi Di Maio praised the land and banking sector reforms in Ukraine.
The Ministers synchronized the positions of Ukraine and Italy ahead of the G7 and NATO summits. They agreed that the issue of the Russian aggression against Ukraine should become one of the key topics of the world leaders' meetings.
In this context, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine spoke about the current situation in the zone of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict, in the temporarily occupied Crimea and along the Ukrainian borders.
Apart from that, the sides discussed preparations for the inaugural summit of the Crimean platform.
A separate emphasis was placed on the development of contacts between people. "I appealed to the Italian government to open the country to Ukrainian tourists. We want to see more Ukrainian tourists in Italy and more Italian tourists in Ukraine, " Dmytro Kuleba said.
The Ministers reaffirmed the readiness of Ukraine and Italy to sign a new agreement on mutual recognition of driver's licenses in the near future.
Dmytro Kuleba and Luigi Di Maio put a high value on the role of the Ukrainian community in Italy in the context of strengthening mutually beneficial relations between the two countries.
