The URC 2024 International Ukraine Recovery Conference starts in Berlin. The delegation of the Ministry of Energy is headed by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko.
During the Conference, representatives of governments and businesses from dozens of countries will discuss assistance to Ukraine in its recovery from massive russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
In the presence of the Minister of Energy, a number of memorandums of cooperation and agreements are expected to be signed to help increase generation and strengthen the resilience of the energy system. Among them are agreements with Siemens Energy AG, Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG, Voith Hydro (Austria), NOTUS Energy Invest Ukraine GmbH, GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment GmbH, Deutsche Bank AG, The GE Vernova, Power Conversion Business Unit. The Ukrainian side will sign agreements with state-owned energy companies.
A number of bilateral meetings are scheduled during the Conference: with German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, US Assistant Secretary of State and G7+ Energy Sector Assistance Coordinator Geoffrey Pyatt, and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Director-General Francesco La Camera, Austrian Federal Minister of Labour and Economy Martin Kocher, President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Reta Jo Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation Scott Nathan and others.
The priorities of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine for cooperation with partners during the event include decentralisation of the energy system, promotion of investment in the energy sector, adaptation of legislation and integration into EU electricity markets.
Together with international partners, the Ministry of Energy is working on projects to develop a decentralised energy system with a focus on local distribution networks (together with GE Venona), gas piston turbines, and energy storage facilities (together with the EBRD, Siemens Electronics). Work is underway to intensify support for renewable energy projects (together with the German Solar and Wind Association Notus, IFC-Elementum Energy, etc.), and to develop a programme to support green projects with technical assistance from IRENA and the Energy Community.
