  • Oleksiy Honcharuk: The State will provide all the necessary support to the families of those who died in a plane crash in Iran

    We express sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the plane crash. The operational headquarters of the National Security and Defense Council, established on commission of the President, is already operating. The causes of the tragedy will be thoroughly investigated.

    Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk announced at a briefing.

    “According to preliminary data, 167 passengers and 9 crew members were registered for the Tehran-Kyiv flight. 11 Ukrainians were killed, including 9 crew members and 2 passengers. Most of the passengers were Iranian citizens. Also on board were citizens of Canada, Sweden, Afghanistan, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The final list of citizens is still being specified,” the Head of Government informs.

    According to him, psychologists and doctors have been working at the airport of Boryspil to provide necessary assistance to the families of the dead.

    “The state will provide the necessary support to the families of the victims. The State Aviation Administration will conduct unscheduled inspections of the safety of UIA flights. Flights in Iran's airspace will be banned for Ukrainian airlines from January 9, 00:00 until finding out the reasons of the disaster,” Oleksiy Honcharuk emphasized.

    He added that the Ukrainian ambassador and the consul are working closely with the aviation authorities of Iran to expeditiously investigate the causes of the crash and repatriate the bodies of the dead Ukrainian citizens.

    “A group will be sent to Iran to assist with the search operation. The group includes experts to investigate the causes of the disaster, including 5 members of the National Bureau of Air Accidents Investigation of Ukraine, 2 representatives of the State Aviation Administration and 3 representatives of the UIA,” said the Prime Minister.

    It should be noted that according to UIA information, the Boeing 737-800 NG was new and had had last scheduled maintenance on January 6th.
