Denys Shmyhal: Following the “Energy Ramstein” meeting and the Chornobyl Conference, new agreements have been reached on supporting the energy sector and nuclear safety

On the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine/Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal together with partners held two key events: the “Energy Ramstein” and the International Chornobyl Conference on Recovery and Nuclear Safety, chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

On the outcomes of the meetings there have been achieved a series of critical agreements:

• Partners committed EUR 100 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and agreed to seek an additional financing worth EUR 829 million.
• Agreement was signed with the EBRD on EUR 30million for the first stage of Ukryttia confinement restoration.
• Nearly EUR 100 million pledged by partners for confinement recovery and nuclear safety in Ukraine.
•  Separately, a Memorandum was signed with the IAEA on rebuilding and developing Ukraine’s nuclear sector.

“Grateful to all countries and organisations for standing with Ukraine on this important date and for the unwavering support,” stressed Denys Shmyhal.

The Minister of Energy also expressed his gratitude to Moldovan President Maia Sandu, EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, European Commissioners Valdis Dombrovskis and Dan Jørgensen, the ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Poland, and the United Kingdom, as well as representatives from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Norway, Japan, Italy, the United Nations, and the EIB.
