The very first key point of the Government's Priority Action Plan for 2023 is security and defence. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal highlighted during a Government meeting on March 14.

"All the taxes paid by citizens and businesses will be directed to defence and security, new weapons, equipment and better provision for the Ukrainian army," the Prime Minister stressed.

According to him, the top priorities in this area include the following:

    - Development of the defence industry. New ammunition production facilities, new missile programmes, supplying the army with drones, including those manufactured by Ukrainian companies.

    - Cooperation with partners for the joint production of new weapons.

    - Involvement of the private sector in the development of the defence industry. Public-private partnerships. Dual-use technologies.

    - Mine clearance of the de-occupied territories.

    - Implementation of the Peace Formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Another point of the Government's Priority Action Plan is further integration into the EU and NATO. According to Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine is implementing 7 recommendations of the European Commission, and now, in particular, is launching self-screening of legislation for compliance with European laws and aims to launch membership negotiations this year.

"We are planning to update the Action Plan for the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. We will prolong activities to further integrate into the EU's internal market. We plan to extend transport and economic visa-free regimes. We want to get a roaming visa-free regime and start the process of joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). We are establishing the Horizon Europe Programme Office in Ukraine. We will develop the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) within Ukraine. We are building joint border crossing points and integrating our customs," the Prime Minister said.

As for NATO, the Head of Government noted, the main point was the further implementation of NATO standards. The Programme of Work on Military Standardisation for 2024-2026 is being developed. Deepening political cooperation between Ukraine and NATO for Ukraine's victory and further security is underway.
