Denys Shmyhal: Preparing for the next winter is one of the key priorities in strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal took part in the 2nd International Cohesion Forum, where he outlined the main directions for preparing the energy sector and critical infrastructure for the upcoming autumn-winter period.  

The Minister of Energy emphasized that amid ongoing russian aggression, central authorities, regions, and communities jointly respond to the key wartime challenge: the russian threat to Ukraine’s energy system and all critical infrastructure.  

According to Denys Shmyhal, the main directions of preparation for the next winter include:  

- strengthening the protection of energy facilities throughout Ukraine;  

- accumulating reserves of equipment and energy resources for rapid response to possible damage;  

- developing community autonomy through the implementation of the “energy cells” model to enhance regional energy independence.  

Separately, the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine noted progress in implementing European norms in the energy sector.  

“The law on the integration of Ukrainian and European energy markets has been voted on and signed by the President. This makes it possible to sign direct agreements for electricity supply, opening new opportunities for Ukrainian generation,” said Denys Shmyhal.  

The Minister also stressed that Ukraine has unique experience in protecting energy infrastructure during wartime and is ready to share it with international partners.  

“I am grateful to all states and institutions that helped Ukraine get through this difficult winter. I thank the regions and communities that help people endure the trials of war,” added Denys Shmyhal.
