During a meeting with the Ambassadors to NATO, Denys Shmyhal emphasised the need for air defence

Minister of Defence of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held an important and substantive meeting with the NATO delegation headed by U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.

The talks centred on innovation and safeguarding Ukraine’s skies from enemy drones and missiles. The Minister thanked the partner states’ Ambassadors to NATO for their steadfast support of Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion and expressed particular gratitude for their active participation in the PURL initiative.

The primary focus of the meeting was Ukraine’s needs for the upcoming winter season. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence delivered substantive briefings to the partners.

“Today, Ukraine not only needs support but is also ready to share its experience in building air defence with allied nations. A free sky must be reliably protected from hostile aggression,” Denys Shmyhal stated in his address to the Ambassadors.

He also emphasised the importance of air defence systems and the establishment of a multi-layered defence comprising missiles, interceptor drones, and radar systems.
