The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine plans to make a decision on compensation to households with electric heating. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in his statement at the Verkhovna Rada on January 26.

Denys Shmyhal told about the 8 steps needed to make the electricity and gas markets work properly and conveniently for people.

In addition to monetized compensation to households for installed electric heating systems, the Government, according to the Prime Minister, also set the maximum price for gas for the population at UAH 6.99 with VAT per cubic meter of gas. The same decision is being developed for condominiums.

"Tariffs for heating and hot water will not be increased until the end of the heating season. We have managed to reach a certain consensus with the local authorities, we have prepared a memorandum, it will be signed in the near future," the Prime Minister stressed.

The Prime Minister also reminded that after consultations with the Government and MPs, the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission had limited the gas distribution tariff to UAH 1.79 per cubic meter.

"Another very important initiative concerns the distribution and maintenance of gas distribution networks. The Government together with the parliamentary committee is initiating a bill on the amalgamating regional gas companies, the introduction of special accounts, the possible introduction of temporary administrations, thereby allowing to discipline the gas distribution market and preventing a monopoly from increasing distribution tariffs," said Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Head of Government, fines or penalties for late payment of gas and heating bills in January will not be imposed on people. In addition, the Government expects the results of the Antimonopoly Committee's investigations and the establishment of fair and transparent rules in the gas market.

Moreover, the Prime Minister highlighted that the main product of gas supply companies will be an annual product as a default. "This is what we are currently working on with parliamentary committees and gas distribution companies to make it convenient for people to calculate the tariff."

As Denys Shmyhal emphasized, such products should be presented in the spring and this is the optimal solution that allows to develop the gas market and at the same time set fair and understandable tariffs for people.
