A joint sitting of the Presidium of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine and the National Council of Reforms took place in Kyiv on July 29. The event gathered together President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the leadership of the President’s Office, representatives of the Government and local self-government bodies.
According to the Prime Minister, public-private partnership is a promising tool for economic development and leveraging investment and the state seeks to expand this mechanism to the regions, so that it becomes a public-private-regional partnership.
"We already have examples of successful cooperation between the state and business: concession projects are being implemented in the ports of Kherson and Olvia. We are expecting similar projects in the field of road and social infrastructure. I believe that this mechanism should be actively used within individual communities: in the construction of roads, hospitals, energy facilities and other industries as well," stressed Denys Shmyhal.
The Head of Government noted that investors are interested in being efficient, creating jobs, and thus, there occurs competition for labor.
"More investors - better salaries, better conditions for employees and community residents. The State Statistics Service has updated the statistics on the average salary in the country. It amounted to UAH 14,313 – over USD 500. This is a record level for all time, but certainly not the limit we strive to reach. We want wages to grow further and reach European levels. That is why we are all working hard," the PM urged.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that the Ukrainian economy is recovering from the coronavirus-inflicted crisis, and in the coming years the state should make every effort to make an economic leap. The role of regions and local authorities in this, in his opinion, is of paramount importance.
