The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Achim Steiner tackles the rapid restoration of critical and housing infrastructure, support for people and job creation in Ukraine during an online meeting.
Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine ranks first among European countries and one of the key in the world in the number of projects and the amount of funding implemented by UNDP.
"We praise the active participation of UNDP in providing assistance to citizens of Ukraine who have been forced to leave Ukraine and internally displaced persons, as well as providing logistical and legal assistance in relocating businesses from central and eastern regions to western Ukraine," said the Prime Minister. According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine now needs quick solutions to a number of issues. After all, more citizens have returned to our country in the last month than left. According to the Head of the Ukrainian government, the main focus of Ukraine and international organizations should be on projects to restore critical infrastructure, including education and health care and housing reconstruction.
"Many people are returning home, but some of them have their homes destroyed or damaged. The government is currently providing budget funds to local authorities to help these families rebuild their homes. It will be very valuable for us to support UNDP and other international organizations in the immediate restoration of partially damaged buildings, "said Denys Shmyhal.
According to the Prime Minister, the state is now focused on the rapid construction of modular towns and at the same time continues to rebuild damaged homes.
Moreover, Denys Shmygal also raised the issue of demining. The PM stressed that Ukraine needs the necessary equipment and assistance of specialists. The Head of Government thanked for the assistance in developing a special application, an appendix to the Action, for demining territories.
Among other things, the parties discussed the development of small and medium-sized businesses. According to the Prime Minister, this is one of the most important issues, which is constantly discussed at the level of the President of Ukraine.
"Many enterprises and plants have been destroyed by russia today. 12 million people - refugees and internally displaced persons - will eventually return home. It is critical to find a solution to create a number of jobs during the year so that people have jobs and can feed their families, "said the Prime Minister.
According to Denys Shmyhal, a possible option is to create a special program for small and medium enterprises, according to which the state together with international organizations could provide people with financial support for the creation and development of their business.
Achim Steiner, for his part, noted that UNDP is interested in the reconstruction and development of Ukraine and his team in cooperation with the Government and state institutions is already working on solutions to the issues raised.
