  • Denys Shmyhal: Promoting Ukraine's economic interests in the world should become a daily agenda of ambassadors' work

    Protecting the rights and interests of Ukrainian business abroad should become a daily part of the work of diplomatic missions. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal accentuated in a statement at the Conference of Heads of Foreign Diplomatic Missions of Ukraine.

    The Prime Minister stressed that the role of every Ukrainian diplomat in promoting Ukraine’s economic interests in the world is crucial. Today, amid a pandemic, any business needs support and assistance. This also applies to Ukrainian businesses operating in other countries.

    "Ukrainian business, which has gained a place in the markets of the world, also needs support. This should become a daily part of the work of diplomatic services. I urge you to be active and persistent in defending the national business," said Denys Shmyhal.

    According to the Head of Government, no less important area of work of diplomatic services is the leverage of direct foreign investment in the economy of Ukraine. According to him, the Government has approved priority investment projects in a number of sectors, such as energy, transport, processing industry and more.

    "Such projects can be implemented with the involvement of investors, in particular on the terms of public-private partnership, international technical assistance or at the expense of credit funds and the budget. It is necessary to create favorable conditions for investors can come to Ukraine and have confidence. And they are taking the first step through the diplomatic services," the Prime Minister stressed.

    Moreover, Denys Shmyhal reminded that the so-called law on "investment nannies" had been adopted the day before on the initiative of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to him, this step additionally increases the investment attractiveness of Ukraine.

    "We are also actively working with the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection and the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture. The work of the UkraineInvest has been completely renewed and reloaded," the Head of Government said.

    The Prime Minister noted that work is underway on the "National Economic Strategy 2030", which contains vectors of Ukraine's development, including IT and R&D.

    "The field of solutions, innovation and technology in Ukraine has significant potential. We have enough young scientists whom we should provide with worthy projects and challenges. Scientists must have the opportunity to realize their potential. We, as a state, are ready to lend a hand and provide such opportunities. However, we also require partnership experience and the assistance of diplomats abroad," stressed Denys Shmyhal.

    According to the Prime Minister, it is critical to coordinate efforts to facilitate Ukrainian producers and exporters in entering foreign markets, promote Ukrainian value-added goods and involve economic facilities in Ukraine in the privatization process.
