On Wednesday, August 19, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine supported amendments to the State Target Program for Airport Development until 2023.
"This decision will help speed up the completion of the reconstruction of the runway at Odessa Airport, which sees its final stages. An additional UAH 117 million will be allocated for design and estimate documentation," Denys Shmyhal said.
The changes to the Program also envisage the design and construction of Mukachevo Airport, which will become a strategic component of the Western Transport Hub of Ukraine and will contribute to the development of the infrastructure of the fifth Pan-European Transport Corridor (Crete Corridors).
"I also talked to the Prime Minister of Slovakia Igor Matovič yesterday. We agreed to resume full operation of Uzhhorod International Airport. In September, during the planned visit of the President of Ukraine to the Slovak Republic, it is planned to sign a relevant interstate agreement. And Uzhhorod Airport will start full operation, thereby opening up additional opportunities for Zakarpattia in terms of domestic and international air transportation," added Denys Shmyhal.
According to the Prime Minister, each region should have its own aviation transport hub – that is a strategy of the Government, which is constantly being worked on by the Ministry of Infrastructure and the responsible Minister.
