  • MIA delegation takes part in the Third Danube Security Conference

    On March 24, 2023, the Third Security Conference of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region was held in Brussels. The 14 participating countries of the Strategy, as well as representatives of the European Commission, Interpol, Europol and the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC), discussed the strengthening of international police cooperation in the security sector, as well as the impact of the russian aggressive war on the security situation in the Danube Region.

    Ukraine was represented at the ministerial meeting by a delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (MIA) Oleksii Serhieiev. In his speech, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring a mechanism for strengthening the interaction of all stakeholders to maintain the security of the Danube region, noted the active participation of the bodies and units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the fighting and stressed the importance of consolidating joint efforts of European countries to repel the aggression of the russian federation.

    "The security of Europe is inseparable from the security in Ukraine, so our cooperation is a joint contribution to the development and strengthening of the European security architecture," the Deputy Minister said.

    Oleksii Serhieiev also informed about the implementation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs initiative to form the Assault Guard brigades and expressed hope for further assistance and support to the law enforcement sector of Ukraine.

    All the participating countries emphasized the need to strengthen law enforcement cooperation, condemned russia's unprovoked and unjustified military invasion of Ukraine and reaffirmed their intention to continue supporting Ukraine in all possible ways.

    On the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference, the Ukrainian delegation held a bilateral meeting with the Bavarian State Minister of the Interior, for Sport and Integration Joachim Herrmann to discuss the challenges faced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Bavarian State Minister noted the high level of police cooperation between the Ukrainian and Bavarian police and assured of continued support.
