In recent years, the relations between Ukraine and the United States are only improving. Ukraine and the US have a lot of joint solutions that need to be intensified in the future. This was stated during a meeting of Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman with US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. This is the second visit of Rick Perry to Ukraine, the first took place in November 2018.
"I want to express gratitude to our American colleagues for their support in the energy sector. We have a number of joint practices that need to be strengthened in order to ensure energy security of Ukraine and the entire region", the Head of Government said.
The PM singled out that the Government had launched deregulation of the energy sector in the country and introduced open access to the Ukrainian deposits and production of Ukrainian gas.
According to the Prime Minister, the essential strategic goal of the Government is full integration into the EU energy market, as well as the preservation of Ukraine's role as a key gas transit country.
The Head of Government of Ukraine proposed to the Secretary of Energy of the United States to unite endeavors to stop the Russian gas project Nord Stream 2.
"Construction of Nord Stream 2 is a kind of energy weapon of Russia. They want to use this gas pipeline to influence European partners. Ukraine adamantly opposes the construction of the project. We are grateful to the United States for your support in this critical issue", said Volodymyr Groysman.
In turn, Rick Perry stressed that the United States stands with Ukraine and will remain our strong economic partner.
"On Ukraine’s territory there are enormous natural resources underneath the ground and this is an important resource belonging to your people. It is vital to counteract those who can use energy as weapons. Therefore, the U.S. stands against the construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2", he said.
