Anti-Crisis Energy Headquarters starts preparations for the 2023/24 heating season
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting of the Anti-Crisis Energy Headquarters to discuss preparations for the autumn-winter period of 2023/24.
The Head of Government and members of the headquarters were briefed on the state of preparation of the fuel and energy sector, power generating companies, and utilities for the next heating season.
The meeting of the headquarters determined that by the beginning of the next autumn-winter period, the gas stocks in storage facilities should exceed 14 billion cubic metres.
“We are now preparing for the heating season. Our strategic goal is to minimise gas imports to Ukraine by increasing our own gas production. The development of domestic gas exchange trading is also an integral part of maintaining the investment attractiveness of this sector,” the Prime Minister said.
The participants of the meeting also discussed the situation in the electricity sector. They gave instructions to increase the possibilities of exporting and importing electricity with the European Union.
The members of the Anti-Crisis Energy Headquarters agreed with all the energy companies present at the meeting on a plan to restore 1710 MW of generating capacity by the beginning of the heating season. In addition, the task was given to continue working with the Energy Community to attract EUR 200 million in grant funds for the repair of power equipment.
“We are systematically placing the restoration of thermal power plants and boiler houses, as well as those TPPs that serve as heat suppliers in certain cities, under the control of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development. The Ministry of Energy and the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development have also been tasked with ensuring the protection of generating capacity and distribution systems from russian drones and missiles,” the Prime Minister said.
Among the issues discussed at the meeting was the proposal to decentralise the power grid, particularly the involvement of communities in the development of distributed generation.
