On Wednesday, October 23, during his visit to the Sultanate of Oman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha held talks with Minister of Economy of the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Said bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Saqri.
Foreign Minister of Ukraine expressed Ukraine's interest in the development of relations with Oman and the Gulf States in various fields, including trade, investment, food exports, renewable energy and technology.
The Minister proposed to the Omani side to consider creating a food hub for Ukrainian products and its further promotion to the markets of East African countries.
Andrii Sybiha stressed that despite the war and russia's strikes on Ukrainian port infrastructure and civilian ships, our state remains one of the guarantors of global food security. He assured of Ukraine’s readiness to remain a reliable supplier of critical food products for Middle East and Africa. The Minister invited the Omani side to take part in the third Food Summit, which will be held later this year in Kyiv.
Parties recognized that the russian aggression against Ukraine entailed negative global consequences, in particular, aggravated the crises in food, energy, security and other sectors.
Andrii Sybiha informed the interlocutor about the situation on the battlefield and with regard to the Peace Formula as the only way to restore a comprehensive, just and lasting peace. He expressed gratitude to the Omani side for the principled support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and of the principles of the UN Charter.
Foreign Minister of Ukraine also informed about the russian terror against the Ukrainian energy system and outlined the priority needs of our state in energy support on the eve of winter.
Ministers concurred on the importance of launching a Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Omani Commission on trade and economic cooperation and holding its inaugural meeting. They discussed exchanging business missions to explore cooperation opportunities and setting up a permanent business council mechanism for the development of bilateral trade.
Ministers also focused on prospects of building up the legal basis for strengthening trade relations and concluding agreements on elimination of double taxation, and preferential trade.
Andrii Sybiha invited the Omani side to take part in the next conference on restoration of Ukraine and play an active role in reconstruction of our country. Parties paid special attention to the development of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres.
