An issue of
increasing pensions for military pensioners is highly
sensitive and currently being considered at the level of the National Security
and Defense Council. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman.
He stressed that
the essential component of the initiative is the need to fairly differentiate
the increase. "There are those in the system who have never seen a war and
military actions. They mustn’t be placed on a par. I assure you", said Volodymyr Groysman. "But I
want to highlight: if we adopt the law in February or March, we will
recalculate the pensions for all the retirees from January."
The Prime
Minister emphasized that the Government pays tribute to all those who protect
the state and engages in work in two directions, that is to raise salaries for
both active military personnel and retirees.
Background
The decision to
improve pensions for military pensioners is the next step in implementing the
pension reform in Ukraine. At the end of 2017, the Government drafted a
framework law on this issue and submitted it to the National Security and Defense
Council for further consideration, since any military issues in line with the
current legislation must be agreed upon with this authority.
