The Government
of Ukraine, at its meeting held on January 11, endorsed the Strategy of the
state policy on healthy and active longevity of the population for the period
up to 2022 that was designed to implement Association Agreement between Ukraine
on the one hand, and the European Union, the European Atomic Energy Community
and its member states, on the other hand, the Madrid International Plan of
Action on Ageing, as well as to ensure the creation of favorable conditions for
healthy ageing and active longevity, adaptation of social institutions to
further demographic ageing and the development of society equal opportunities
for people of all ages.
The
development, adoption and implementation of the Strategy will contribute to
solving problems and seizing the opportunities related to ageing of the
population.
The said
document determines the priority directions for handling demographic changes,
provides for comprehensive measures to support senior citizens and their
integration into social development, the improvement of the quality of life,
and the protection of the rights of the elderly people.
The
Strategy focuses on the following overriding areas: older persons and
development, advancing health and well-being into old age, ensuring enabling
and supportive environments and creating a system of protection of their
rights.
