Prime Minister: Since the beginning of the year over 2 thousand km of road network have been reconstructed in Ukraine

Since the beginning of the year there have been reconstructed and repaired over 2 thousand km of road networks in Ukraine, being twice the level of 2016. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman assured the activities would only increase. According to the Head of Government, road repair work is being conducted throughout the entire territory of Ukraine, and each region of Ukraine can demonstrate examples of overhauled and repaired road infrastructure.

"We could have organized large-scale repairs, reconstruction and construction of roads all over the country," said Volodymyr Groysman. "If earlier we analyzed the state of the roads, nowadays we see what we have achieved."

The Prime Minister stressed that rehabilitation of road infrastructure is an issue of improvement of the transit potential of Ukraine, first of all, as a country participating in several transport corridors, as well as of an issue of traffic safety. In this regard, the Prime Minister reminded that Ukraine has embarked on the implementation of a three-year traffic safety improvement program, which stipulates for providing safe crossings, installation of weighing scales, control over implementation of updated traffic rules, updating of the technical component in road maintenance.

"We must build high-quality roads. Ukraine will have smooth roads to drive on", assured Volodymyr Groysman.

Background

Budgeting for road infrastructure in the current year will amount to at least UAH 30 billion. In the draft budget for 2018, financing, including through the Road Fund, which will launch operation in January of 2018, will raise to at least UAH 44 billion.
