PM: The reforms we are pursuing are needed by Ukraine, not the IMF
The Government engages
in consistent implementation of a reform program aimed at stabilizing the
situation in Ukraine and improving the economy performance. This was stated by
Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during a meeting with First Deputy
Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund David Lipton.
"The
Government highly appreciates the cooperation with the Fund and its
contribution to the introduction of vital reforms in Ukraine. We are committed
to prolong the implementation of our joint with the IMF program, which is of
paramount importance for Ukraine. The reforms we are pursuing are needed by
Ukraine, not the IMF", said Volodymyr Groysman.
In turn, David Lipton emphasized that, in his opinion, Ukraine is showing excellent results in addressing topical economic and social issues. According to him, the fact that the Government has managed to settle the situation over the past year creates good preconditions for transition to more dynamic economic growth. "The global economy is growing now. And Ukraine can and should use this opportunity now", David Lipton was quoted as saying.
Moreover, the
Head of Ukraine’s Government informed the interlocutor about the state of
affairs with implementation of reforms in education, pension system, healthcare
sector and that of management of state-owned enterprises, as well as about the progress
in the preparation of the draft state budget for next year. "Regarding the
budget of 2018, this Friday we are going to present the key landmarks of the
document, which harmonize with the indicators of the previously adopted Budget
Resolution", the Prime Minister emphasized.
As a result of the talks, the parties agreed to continue the interaction in order to determine the next steps for financial support of reforms in Ukraine by the IMF.
