The final text of the new Law "On Education" is ready for consideration in the second reading. This was stated by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ukraine Cristian-Leon Ţurcanu.

«According to my information, the new Law "On Education" should be voted in the Parliament before Teacher's Day - a professional holiday of our educators. It had to be considered earlier - in the last week of the previous session, however lawmakers did not have enough time. Before the second reading, more than a thousand amendments were submitted by MPs, but they were completely worked out, thereby agreement was reached regarding amendments», Lilia Hrynevych stressed.

The law "On Education" is the framework law in legislative coverage of education. Its adoption gives green light to amending the laws "On secondary education" and "On vocational education" as well as the elaboration of the law "On the national system of qualifications.

Delays in the adoption of the law "On Education" hamper the implementation of comprehensive reform in education sector. Before now, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine noted that the bill ought to be voted at the beginning of the 7th session of the Verkhovna Rada, because it is important to budget necessary funds for the implementation of the reform.

It should be noted that on 6 October, 2016, 277 lawmakers voted for the draft law "On Education" in the first reading.
