  • Prime Minister about Ukrzaliznytsya: The company needs an independent Supervisory Board
    posted 26 June 2017 11:00

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will decide on a possible extension of the contract with head of the JSC Ukrzaliznytsia Wojciech Balchun after hearing a relevant report, but, instead, considers it necessary to continue the corporatization of the company and the formation of an independent Supervisory Board in it. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman in an interview with Liga.net.

"What should we do with Ukrzaliznytsya? It is vital to conduct the enterprise’s corporatization. An independent Supervisory Board - that's what they need. I have set this task. And if we reload the management, then not the head of the board alone, but the entire board. We must encourage the best specialists to join and develop the company. At that the Government will determine the criteria for assessing their activities", said Volodymyr Groysman.

However, he avoided talking about whether he considered probable the resignation of Wojciech Balchun in the near future.

"We will fix the day and date when Balchun reports about his work for the year. After that, the Government will decide. He was working under a contract, currently he has been working under labor law. The decision about his contract will be taken by the Government after hearing his report. So far I have a lot of controversial information. Some say that his (of Balchun) team is working properly, others say - bad. Some say they are honest, others say – corrupt”, said Volodymyr Groysman. “My desire is that we could bring professional people to the management of state-owned companies. But neither through pull, nor for the party affiliation, nor following a quota principle. Then the situation will look quite different."
