“The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine pays lots of attention to developing of transport infrastructure in the South of Ukraine”, Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, stated during a meeting with Mr. Shigenori Ogawa, the General Director of the Middle East and Europe Department JICA, which took place in Kyiv on April 12, 2017.

"I am grateful to Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for continuous cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine. The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine pays lots of attention to the developing of transport infrastructure in the South of Ukraine and routes which connect Ukrainian ports with the main rural and industrial regions of Ukraine, such as Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya. Also, I would like to draw your attention to the GO «Gdansk-Odesa» Highway Project, connecting the Baltic and the Black seas. Implementation of this Project will promote smooth and seamless movement of goods and better connectivity between the ports of the Baltic Sea (Gdansk/Gdynia) and the Black Sea (Odessa region). The project is relevant to TEN-T network on the territory of Ukraine. It improves speed rate for cargo flows and reduces cargo delivery costs. The future highway will be the part of Intermodal Southern Silk Road Route across the Black and the Caspian seas bypassing the territory of Russia. We continue work on preparation of concession projects, namely in Kherson, Olvia and Chornomorsk ports. We expect that this year DP World will enter port “Yuzhny” while Hutchison Ports - the port “Chornomorsk”, Volodymyr Omelyan said.

Japanese international cooperation Agency (JICA) is interested in the implementation of several Ukrainian infrastructure projects. In November last year, a review team of JICA visited the SE "Odessa Commercial Sea Port", SE "Sea Commercial Port of Chernomorsk," SE "Yuzhny Commercial Sea Port", SE "Mykolayiv Sea Commercial Port", SE "Kherson Sea Commercial Port", SE "Mykolaiv Oblavtodor", also visited the place where it is planned to build a bridge across river the Southern Bug in Mykolayiv.
