Prime
Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
had a meeting with Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili within the framework of the summit of the
Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM, which took place in
Kyiv at the initiative of Volodymyr Groysman and was the first ever event at the level of Heads
of Governments.
The parties
focused on the prospects and directions of deepening cooperation between
Ukraine and Georgia.
"It is
important to assess the state of bilateral cooperation and to outline plans for
further collaboration. I would really like to see the business contacts and
all-embracing cooperation deepened. I consider that this absolutely coincides
with our current potential and we should use it in full", stressed the
Prime Minister of Ukraine at the beginning of the meeting.
The sides
noted long term benefits from the development of bilateral trade and tackled
opportunities to combine efforts, in particular in the areas of infrastructure
and agriculture.
A positive step
in this direction will be the meeting of the Joint intergovernmental
Ukrainian-Georgian Commission on economic cooperation on April 12-13, said Volodymyr Groysman.
Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi
Kvirikashvili invited Head of the Ukrainian
Government to pay an official visit to Georgia and offered to dedicate it to
holding of the Silk Road Forum in late November of 2017.
"This will be another step to
enhance our partnership", said Volodymyr Groysman, having accepted the invitation.
Prime Minister of Georgia thanked Volodymyr
Groysman for the excellent organization of the GUAM
summit. In turn, the Head of Ukrainian Government noted that the signed in the
framework of the summit joint documents would allow the countries to raise
efficiency of cooperation.
Separately, the Prime Ministers touched upon the topic
of mutual support in the context of countering violations of territorial
integrity and sovereignty of the countries.
"We feel your consistent support of our
territorial integrity, your stance regarding Russian aggression towards
Ukraine. It is very important to us", said Volodymyr
Groysman.
In response, the Head of the Georgian Government said:
"We are members of one family - the Eastern Partnership,
in addition, we are the members of the GUAM family. We have the shared goals
and shared problems derived from the unity of our goals and directions of our
foreign policy, as well as ambitions to transform our countries into true
Eastern democracies. I think that despite the obstacles, we will succeed and
lead our countries to prosperity, stability and closer bilateral cooperation.
This is a prerequisite to our success."
